My favorite shows from NY

Prabal Gurung A/W 2012

No one really sexed it up like Prabal Gurung at NY fashion week, he created a vibe of glamour that few do, if you're not in Milan or of course at "Couture Week". When the last looks came down the runway - the evening gowns. If I had walked into the room just that second I would have thought it was Roberto Cavalli or Pucci's show. You heard it from me first: when the two fashion houses come looking for a replacement, when Cavalli retires or Peter Dundas creates his own label, then Gurung will definitely be on the top of the list. He and Zac Posen might be two of the designers that seem somewhat mal placé in the hipster city and would fit better in a place of elegance and glamour: Milan... but don't leave Paris out of the equation.

Proenza Schouler

Was it Proenza Schouler's show or Balenciaga's S/S 2012? No, I'm not totally serious, I mean the two have created similar silhouettes and jackets with over-sized arms. But that's one of few resemblances. Just looking at a few photos of the looks, you can see that Asia has inspired and more specifically Japan, one thinks of karate and kimonos with a new twist.

Vera Wang
One should never underestimate Vera Wang, she's been in the business much longer than many of her equals showing at fashion week. One easily feels that an old fox can't create the hip fashionable clothes the NY crowd is looking for. But this is untrue to say the least, it's within Wang's last season she's evolved and become more modern, all of the garments feel fresh.
It's hard to believe a woman who's done bridal wear for such a long time, who's famous worldwide for her classical dresses, can be so diverse...
